CYGANIK
Stephen Cyganik passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the age of 86 years, beloved husband of Wanda Cyganik of Medicine Hat.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Jan Cyganik of Rossington, Alberta, Paul Cyganik of Calgary, Aurora “Mandy” (Ben) Cyganik of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Dustin Cyganik of Edmonton, Chelsea (Blaine) Higgs and Cole Cyganik all of Medicine Hat; two great grandchildren, Kade Higgs and Clara Higgs of Medicine Hat.

He was predeceased by his parents Sophia and Peter Cyganik; his daughter Karen and a sister Stella.

Steve was born on February 14, 1923 in Poland and came to Canada at the age of 5. His family settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he attended the Holy Ghost Catholic School. Steve joined the Canadian Forces at the beginning of WW2, first serving in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and then with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles overseas. In 1943 he came home and began an engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. He met the love of his life, Wanda, through the Holy Ghost Church. In 1949, Steve moved to Ralston, beginning a long career at DRES where he also joined the militia. Wanda came to join him in Alberta after they married in Winnipeg in 1950. Steve took an early retirement to allow him more time for what he loved, fishing and hunting. His golden years were spent living in Medicine Hat where he kept an immaculate yard and a bountiful garden.

Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Pops, he will be missed by many. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m and on Friday from 9:00 - 10:25 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Deacon Bill Schnitzler officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.

Wanda Frances Cyganik of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the age of 88 years, beloved wife of the late Stephen Cyganik. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Jan Cyganik (Caroline Spencer) of Rossington, Alberta, Paul Cyganik of Calgary and Aurora “Mandy” Cyganik-Barker (Ben Gergley) of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Dustin Cyganik of Edmonton, Chelsea (Blayne) Higgs and Cole Cyganik-Barker all of Medicine Hat and Jasmine Warner of Rossington, Alberta; two great grandchildren, Kade and Clara Higgs; one brother, John (Mary) Orchowski of Edmonton and one sister, Lil (Kaz) Manchur of Winnipeg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Walter Orchowski; her husband Stephen on May 27, 2009; one daughter, Karen and one brother, Richie. Wanda was born in Lublin, Poland on April 11, 1924 and immigrated to Canada with her brothers and sister. She spent her childhood on a farmstead near Fisher Branch, Manitoba and then met her future husband in Winnipeg. During WWII, Wanda supported our troops by sewing uniforms. After marrying Stephen, they moved to CFB Suffield where she worked for nearly a decade for the government. Wanda enjoyed entertaining, sewing and gardening. She and Stephen enjoyed fishing and visiting lakes and reservoirs all around this area. She enjoyed the local birds and wildlife, and had a soft sport for animals and pets. Wanda went to join Stephen surrounded by loving family. As a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, she will be missed dearly. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday,January 31, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Bill Schnitzler officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
